    POSITION TITLE: Director of School Counseling
    POSITION STATUS: Salary Exempt
    LOCATION: District-Wide
    REPORTING TO: Director Special Services
                                                  
     
    OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES: The position of the District Director of School Counseling is to support the School Counselors regarding decision-making including personal, social, emotional, educational and career development; to enhance communication with peers, administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and self; to establish protocols to help orient students to school and community resources; to assist school counselors who work with students in self-assessment, including interests, aptitudes, and career opportunities; to maintain a safe, healthy learning environment for all students; to implement and continually update comprehensive K-12 school counseling programming for all students; and to provide information on post-secondary educational opportunities for all. The District Director will participate and advise in the interviewing and selection process of candidates for counseling openings.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:
     

    • Minimum of seven years of successful counseling experience.
    • Hold or be eligible to hold a valid New Hampshire Director of School Counseling certification.
    • Master's Degree in School Counseling.
    • Leadership skills in the areas of school counseling, program evaluation, staff development and school improvement.
    • Strong interpersonal and advanced verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively present information to groups of individuals, guide decision making and build consensus.
    • Ability to present written documents that are clear, concise and grammatically correct.
    • Ability to operate personal computers utilizing spreadsheet, word processing and database software.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of public-school education and the ability to apply them to the needs of the school.
    • Successful completion of criminal history background check.
     
    RESPONSIBILITIES:
     
    • Supervise the District School Counseling staff.
    • Serve as a member of the high school administrative team and the high school department chair team.
    • Create and submit the yearly budget for the high school counseling department and to assist the Professional School Counselors in the development of their individual budgets.
    • To serve as the coordinator of the PSAT program.
     
    • Work in conjunction with the Principal, Dean of Academics, Assistant Principals, CTE Director and Assistant Principal of Student Support Services to oversee the academic quality and balance of academic programming.   Review all new course offerings with Department Chairs, including the development and continual updating of the high school counseling competencies.
    • Facilitate the annual update of the Program of Studies.
    • Serve as the Selective Services Registrar and the 504 Coordinator for the high school.
    • Maintain a caseload of students in grades 9-12.
    • Oversee the management of the permanent records of students and the proper disposal of outdated materials.
    • Serve as the liaison to outside agencies such as area Adult Education offices, Community Council, AREA Agency, and the military.
    • Co-facilitate the scheduling process for grades 9-12.
    • Periodically meet with the School Counselors via Professional Learning Communities.
    • Occasionally meet with building Principals to stay updated on individual school goals, issues, and needs.
    • Work in conjunction with the Human Resource Director regarding Title IX investigations.

    • Facilitate the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision for counseling that is shared and supported by the community.
    • Advocate, nurture, and sustain a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
    • Ensure management of the organization, operations, and resources for a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment.
    • Collaborate with families and community members in a professional, respectful and positive manner, responding to diverse community interests. and needs while mobilizing community resources.
    • Act with integrity and in an ethical manner in all aspects of carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
    • Perform as a team player in collaborations with others to achieve common goals.
     
     
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
     
    In a normal work-day, the employee may be required to combine standing, walking and sitting; continuously sit at desk, keyboard, etc. for several hours; lift/carry up to 15 pounds infrequently; bend frequently; squat, kneel, climb/balance, reach above shoulder level and lift from high/low positions occasionally.
