    Position Overview

    The Town of Hudson, New Hampshire is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented professional to serve as Associate Planner. Under the direction of the Director of Development Services, the Associate Planner reviews development applications; interprets and applies applicable land use regulations; conducts planning-related research; prepares reports, recommendations, and supporting documentation; responds to inquiries from applicants, property owners, municipal staff, and the public; and provides professional staff support to municipal land use boards. Exercises independent judgment in carrying out assigned responsibilities and consults with the Town Planner on complex, sensitive, regulatory, or policy-related matters.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Provides information and assistance to the public, applicants, and property owners regarding land use regulations, development procedures, and zoning requirements.

    • Reviews development applications for completeness and compliance with applicable ordinances, regulations, and conditions of approval.
    • Coordinates the intake and processing of applications for Planning Board and other land use board review.
    • Prepares and coordinates abutter notifications and other required public notices for Planning Board applications, including verification of abutter lists, mailing information, and notification deadlines.
    • Organizes and assembles Planning Board meeting packets, including applications, plans, staff comments, correspondence, and supporting materials, and coordinates packet distribution in accordance with established deadlines.
    • Maintains organized Planning Department application files and tracks submissions, resubmissions, review comments, notice requirements, meeting dates, and board actions.
    • Prepares and presents staff reports, recommendations, correspondence, and related materials for the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and other assigned boards and committees.
    • Assists in the enforcement of zoning and land use regulations, including review of ongoing development activity for compliance with approvals.
    • Assists with the preparation of zoning determinations, staff memoranda, and technical correspondence.
    • Assists in the preparation, update, and implementation of the Master Plan, Capital Improvements Program (CIP), and land use regulations.
    • Conducts research, data collection, and analysis in support of planning studies and policy development.
    • Supports economic development initiatives, including coordination with Town staff, regional partners, and stakeholders.
    • Provides staff support to the Planning Board and other land use boards or committees as assigned.
    • Assists in identifying, applying for, and administering grants.
    • Attends evening meetings and occasional weekend meetings as required.

     

    Additional duties may be assigned consistent with the responsibilities of the position.

     

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Urban studies, or a related field. • Progressively responsible experience in municipal, regional, or state land use planning; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. • Must undergo and pass a background check and credit check • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
